Davis promoted to director
of Pima County corrections

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department promoted India Davis from assistant corrections director to corrections chief on Sept. 8. Davis is the first in her position to rise through the ranks, beginning as a corrections officer, the department said in a news release.

Before joining the Sheriff’s Department in 1996, Davis was a Russian-language expert in the U.S. Army and a corrections officer for the states of North Carolina and Arizona. She has served in diverse assignments in the Pima County department and became assistant corrections director in 2014.

Davis serves as a board member for the Arizona Detention Association, the Pima County Reentry Coalition, and the Pima County Justice Coordinating Council; and as a liaison to other criminal justice agencies, the courts, and adult probation. In 2015, she won the Pima County Women’s Commission Leadership Award and she was the recipient of the 2015 Administrator of the Year award by the Arizona Detention Association.

She received a bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Arizona; a master’s in public administration from Northern Arizona University; and completed the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations training course and the UA leadership for public sector professionals course.

Davis’ county salary is $134,999.
