Corporate affairs division at Hudbay grows by three

The Arizona Business Unit of Hudbay Minerals Inc. named Britann O’Brien as director of its new corporate affairs division, responsible for community relations, government affairs, communications and human resources.

O’Brien, a longtime expert in government affairs, was most recently the director of the Southern Arizona Office for former Gov. Jan Brewer.

Before that, O’Brien served as homeland security specialist for then-U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl from 2000-2011.

She is an alumna of the University of Arizona and a Flinn-Brown Leadership Fellow.

Also joining the corporate affairs division are Jerry Bustamante as manager of community relations and Bonnie Medler as government relations officer.

Bustamante, also a UA alum, joins Hudbay from the Arizona Small Business Association, where he was senior vice president of public policy and Southern Arizona. Before that, he held positions with Canyon Community Bank and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

Before joining Hudbay, Medler was deputy director of Brewer’s Southern Arizona Office. Medler previously worked for Tucson as a council aide specializing in constituent services and policy, and was an economic development intern for Oro Valley. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from the UA.
