Jeff Guthrie appointed county's emergency management director

Jeff Guthrie has been named director of Pima County’s Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

As director, he also oversees the voter-approved $15 million Emergency Operations Center at 3434 E. 22nd St. His salary is $100,000.

Guthrie had served as the deputy director since 2010 and has worked for the office since 2006. He replaces Mike Hein, who resigned as director in March.

Guthrie is a certified emergency manager and a master exercise practitioner (a program of FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute). He has a bachelor’s degree in emergency management. Before coming to Pima County, he spent 27 years as a firefighter and still is a certified firefighter and has an associate’s degree in fire science.

He is a member of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs Advanced Team; a state instructor authorized to conduct several classes including incident command system and emergency operations center management; and is the chair of the Regional Emergency Preparedness Committee, which he started in 2009.
