Congregation Anshei Israel hires Barkan as its education director
Congregation Anshei Israel has appointed Rabbi Ruven Barkan as education and youth director. He will head up the congregation's Religious School and United Synagogue Youth programs.
Barkan was born and raised in Tucson. His background includes study in Israel, working as a summer counselor at Camp Ramah in California and undergraduate work at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles.
He was ordained in 2001 at Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, and served as rabbi in residence at the Chicagoland Jewish High School for 11 years. For the past three years, he was rabbi for Congregation Agudath Achim in Savannah, Georgia.
