Mlawsky named COO at Tucson Medical Center

Tucson Medical Center named Karen Mlawsky senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Mlawsky previously was senior vice president and CEO of the Hospital Division of the University of Arizona Health Network, where she was responsible for leading two academic medical centers with more than 700 beds and 4,500 staff members.

Mlawsky came to Arizona after serving as executive director of Ohio State University Hospital East.

She joined University Medical Center in 2006 as vice president of UMC North and Oncology Services, where she led a strategic plan to expand services at the Arizona Cancer Center Clinic. After serving as vice president of clinical operations for UA Healthcare, she became CEO of the Hospital Division for the University of Arizona Health Network in May 2011.

Mlawsky, who assumes her duties the last week of April, replaces David Ressler, who left in February to become executive director of a multistate organization.
