Schools across Sahuarita Unified School District were put on lockdown as a precaution Wednesday after a student at one of its high schools was overheard asking if it was legal to bring a gun to school, authorities said.
The Sahuarita High School student who reportedly made the comment fled in his vehicle when a school administrator asked to search the vehicle, a news release from Sahuarita Police Department said.
A fellow student at Sahuarita High reported the conversation to school administration shortly before 1 p.m. School officials then contacted police "who initiated a district-wide lock-down as a precaution," the news release said.
Authorities searched every affected campus but found nothing amiss, it said.
SPD later located the student who fled. Investigation is continuing to see if any laws were broken.
