The mother and stepfather accused of holding their three children as prisoners in their home are scheduled for arraignment in Pima County Superior Court on Friday.

Fernando and Sophia Richter face kidnapping and child abuse charges in connection with keeping her three daughters locked up in the bedrooms of their home.

Police reports say the girls, ages 12, 13 and 17, said they had been confined to their bedrooms for possibly two years.

Police discovered the suspected prison-like circumstances when the two younger girls escaped the home after their stepfather broke down part of the door to the bedroom they shared.

The girls then ran to a neighbor’s house who called police.
