A toddler nearly drowned Thursday at his family's swimming pool in Rita Ranch.

The 1-year-old boy was found in the pool, and a neighbor heard a woman's screams and came to help, said Capt. Andrew Skaggs, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.

The neighbor began CPR on the child. The boy's mother was home at the time of the incident, said Skaggs. He said he did not have details of how the boy got into the pool.

Shortly before 6 p.m., firefighters responded to the 9000 block of East Muleshoe Street, and took over giving treatment to the boy, Skaggs said.

The child was taken to Banner-University Medical Center and his condition was not immediately known late Thursday night.

No further information was immediately available.
