The courtyard and second story of a man's house sustained damage in a Wednesday night fire, in which no one was injured.

With no hydrant nearby, Northwest Fire crews used water from their trucks to battle a two-story house fire near the Tucson Mountains Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Units responded to the 2800 block of North Sunrock Lane about 5:30 p.m. after a 63-year-old man arrived home to find the front courtyard area on fire with flames climbing up to the second story windows, said Northwest Fire District spokesman Captain Adam Goldberg.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes, pulled hose lines, and began to extinguish the fire on the exterior of the house. A second hose was taken upstairs by another crew, as the fire had broken out several windows on the second floor. The upstairs fire was contained before any significant damage was done to the homeowner's possessions, Goldberg said.

Crews used the water brought in on each fire engine and an additional water tender, which carries 3,000 gallons.

The homeowner and his cat were both uninjured, and will stay on the property in a guest house that wasn't touched by the fire. Repairs will be required on the main house before he can live there again, Goldberg said.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues. Damages were estimated to be approximately $15,500.00
