Police negotiators spent much of Thursday trying to coax a barricaded man out of an eastside duplex, in the end though, SWAT officers had to go in after him.
Lamont Adams, 34, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Thursday at a duplex in the 3100 block of South Pantano Road near East Stella Road. It was the culmination of a standoff that started at about 7:30 a.m., said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a spokesman for the Tucson Police Department.
Officers were first called to the home Wednesday evening after a domestic disturbance. Adams is suspected of assaulting the woman with whom he was living, Dugan said.
The woman, who suffered minor injuries, left the home after the assault. Adams, armed with a handgun, followed her and fired a round into the air, Dugan said. The woman ran from him and called 911.
The woman told police she thought Adams went back into the duplex. After several hours of police negotiators trying to coax him from the home, they searched the unit and found it empty, Dugan said. Adams left behind the handgun.
Thursday morning, an officer was flagged down by family members who live in the adjoining unit, βsaying they think heβs back in the house,β Dugan said.
Officers surrounded the duplex, and because Adams had fired the gun the previous night, SWAT was called out as well, Dugan said.
After almost six hours of police negotiators trying to talk Adams out, officers finally entered the home and arrested him.
He was booked into the Pima County jail and faces four felony charges: discharging a firearm in city limits, possession of a weapon by a prohibited possessor, domestic violence-disorderly conduct with a weapon and domestic violence-endangerment.
