A hiker told authorities he was hiking in the Miller Canyon area with his friend and her dog, when the pooch got too tired to walk, according to a news release Wednesday from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department.

The trio were about three miles up Miller Canyon after hiking about 12 miles when Rocko was unable to continue the trek.

The woman left the dog with her friend while she returned to the trailhead to get help.

Rescuers provided the exhausted Rocko with water and made him booties.

Rocko was able to walk for only short distances, so rescuers alternated carrying him and walking him until they reached the bottom of the trail to safety, the release said.
