A fire early Wednesday morning destroyed five cars on Tucson's east side.
Tucson firefighters responded to a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. to the 3000 block of South Marissa Drive, where a garage was on fire, the Tucson Fire Department said in a news release. Smoke alarms woke up the couple living in the house, both in their 60s, who fled the house with their dog after the husband unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire.
The fire department credited the couple for their quick thinking in closing the garage door and keeping the door closed between the garage and the house, which kept the fire contained to the garage. Firefighters removed the front door of the garage to put out the fire.
No injuries were reported. The couple was displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
