A pedestrian struck Monday by an SUV while standing in a road on Tucson's south side died of his injuries, police said.
He was identified as Christopher David De La Corte, 34.
The Tucson Police Department gave the following account in a news release Tuesday:
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday, De La Corte was standing in the northbound median lane of South Park Avenue, north of Ajo Way. He was not in a crosswalk or implied crosswalk. He was struck by a northbound 2016 Dodge Durango traveling at about the posted speed limit.
First responders took the critically injured pedestrian to a hospital and he died later that day.
The driver of the Durango, a 37-year-old man, stayed at the collision scene, fully cooperated and was determined not to be impaired.
Detectives were unable to determine whether De La Corte was impaired, but said illegal drugs and paraphernalia were found in his possession.
