County road tax

Slowed at just about every turn to find money for road repairs, the Pima County Board of Supervisors will consider a property tax increase.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved a final $1.27 billion budget Tuesday that includes a new 25-cent property tax to pay for repairs to local roads.

The budget comes with a 14-cent property tax hike to cover the new tax, with 11 cents in cuts to other property taxes, partially offsetting the roads tax.

The budget was approved 3-2, with supervisors Ally Milly and Steve Christy casting the no votes.

Each had previously expressed “reluctant” support for the measure, but retracted their support before the tentative budget was approved on May 23. Both criticized recent changes to the proposal, including a diminished role for supervisors in deciding which roads to prioritize for repair.
