In June 1956, KDWI went on air, making it Tucson’s third broadcast television station. Tucson rancher D.W. Ingram established the station in his name, hence the name KDWI. When H.U. Garrett bought the station in 1957 he changed the call sign to KGUN, reportedly because he was an avid antique Western gun collector.
