Storm chasers rejoice!
Tonight — Monday, July 31 — might be an active night for lightning in Southern Arizona, and consequently for photographers trying to capture the elusive light show.
"This could be one of the better evenings for lightning, because the conditions are better," said Mike Leuthold, program manager for Regional Weather Modeling at the University of Arizona.
The model used to generate these predictions is not always accurate for time and location of lightning, but Leuthold said the conditions are set for an active night in the general area.
“Today the atmosphere is a little drier and the thunderstorms will occur at night, so there will be more lightning visible than there has been this year,” Leuthold said.
“It’s just that from a storm chaser perspective, they haven’t been able to get many pics because there’s been so much rain with storms.”
Tonight might be their chance.
