City voters have backed political newcomer Paul Durham, an attorney, and gave him 59 percent of vote in early results Tuesday night besting his political rival, firefighter Gary Watson, who received 40 percent of the total.

Durham replaces outgoing Councilwoman Karin Uhlich in Ward 3, who announced she was retiring nearly a year and half ago.
