Four challengers in Novemberβs Oro Valley recall election have secured their candidacies after the town verified that the petitions submitted last week had the required number of signatures.
The challengers have also declared which incumbent they intend to run against in the Town Council and mayoral races, withΒ Pat StraneyΒ facing off against MayorΒ Satish Hiremath.
In the council races, challengerΒ Ryan HartungΒ will face incumbentΒ Joe Hornat;Β Shirl LamonnaΒ will face incumbentΒ Mary Snider; andΒ Steve DidioΒ will face incumbentΒ Lou Waters.
Today is the last day to submit petitions and the ballot in its entirety should be announced by tomorrow evening, as additional candidates could still qualify with enough signatures.
The recall was initiated by the group Oro Valley Citizens for Open Government after the Town Council voted 4-3 in December to buy El Conquistador Country Club and increase the townβs sales tax to raise money to remodel it into a community and recreation center.
Hiremath, Hornat, Snider and Waters voted to approve the deal.
Oct. 5 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election.
