A bee swarm attack critically injured a person Friday in Green Valley, the Santa Rita Fire District says.

The attack occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. in a parking area at Green Valley Village, near Interstate 19 and Esperanza Boulevard.

When fire district personnel arrived, a large swarm of bees was stinging the person, so they quickly donned protective gear in order to move the victim to safe location, the Santa Rita Fire District said in a news release.

The person was immediately taken to a hospital in critical condition. 

No further information was provided.
