Ajo Way and I-19

In preparation for allowing drivers to use the new Ajo Way bridge over Interstate 19, lane and ramp closures will start this week.

The Ajo/I-19 on- and off-ramps will close Wednesday, July 12, at 9 p.m., with the southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp set to reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, says the Arizona Department of Transportation. During that time, traffic signals will be turned off and law enforcement officers will be on hand to direct traffic.

The other ramps will remain closed until late August. Throughout construction, drivers will be encouraged to enter or exit at 29th Street or Irvington Road.

I-19 will also be reduced to one lane of travel in both directions, starting a mile north and south of the interchange.

The closures will accommodate the installation of new traffic signals and access roads for the new bridge.
