Tucson’s summer public pool hours have been reduced from last year, but not by as much as the city initially anticipated in May.

Summer hours at Tucson public pools have been reduced, but not by as much as initially considered.

The new schedule for summer pools hours began Saturday and runs through July the city announced in a newsletter Thursday.

In May, the city said it expected to cut summer pool hours by as much a 37 percent from the previous year, citing budget, staffing and demand issues, as previously reported. It cut hours from 802 in 2023 to 510 in 2024.

Instead, the new plan adds about 29 hours a week to over a half-dozen of the public pools in the city, a review of the new schedule shows.

For example, at Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center, 3455 E. Zoo Court, will see the largest increase with 11 total hours per week added onto its recreation/swim and therapy pool schedules.

El Pueblo pool, 5100 S. Missiondale Road, will see a five-hour bump to its adult lap and recreation/swim pool schedule, while Palo Verde pool, 300 S. Mann Ave., will add Tuesdays to its recreation schedule.

Pools at Clements, 8155 E. Poinciana Drive, Jacobs, 1020 W. Lind St., Menlo, 1100 W. Fresno St., and Oury, 655 N. Hughes St., will all see their recreation and swim hours increase, too.

In the first version of the schedule, Fort Lowell pool was scheduled to open in mid-June, but now is expected to open in July, according to the newest schedule. The pool is under construction, according to the city.

Kennedy Pool is currently listed as closed under the new schedule. The pool is closed for maintenance, according to the city.
