A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a school bus on Tucson's north side.

UPDATE: Police have identified the woman fatally struck by the school bus

A woman who was struck by a school bus on Tucson's north side earlier this morning has died from her injuries, officials said.

The intersection of North Swan and East Fort Lowell Road was shut down for several hours while detectives investigated the crash, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Only two students were on the Tucson Unified School District bus at the time of the crash and neither they nor the driver were injured, Dugan said.

"Tucson Unified School District is deeply saddened by the incident involving one of our school buses this morning," TUSD spokeswoman Michelle Valenzuela wrote in a news release. "Our staff members are cooperating fully with the Tucson Police Department’s investigation. As we continue to process what happened, we send our sympathies to all who are affected."

No additional details were immediately available.
