- What:
- Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
- Last week’s recipient:
- Ariel Friedman.
- Nominated by:
- Barbara Anderson.
- Why:
- For her work as a volunteer with the Child Life Department at Banner-University Medical Center. Friedman, a student at the University of Arizona, has worked with children with serious illnesses. Anderson said Friedman raised funds with her sorority for a special trip for her son Jude, 4, who is being treated at the hospital for leukemia. She also got a fraternity to raise more money for Jude’s trip, Anderson wrote. Friedman also presented Jude with a pair of hand-painted shoes with his favorite cartoon and initiated a program at the hospital to do the same for other children being treated there. “She genuinely cares for and loves the children she volunteers with, and exhibits maturity, kindness, empathy and drive far beyond her age,” Anderson wrote in her nomination letter.
