An Oro Valley police officer shot and injured a man at a house Tuesday evening. Police said they had been searching for the man, whom they said fled a traffic stop earlier in the day.
Lt. Kara Riley, an Oro Valley Police Department spokeswoman, said she did not know what led to the shooting.
The man, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to a hospital, where she said his condition wasn't known.
The shooting occurred at 6 p.m. at a house in the 9000 block of North Shadow Mountain Drive, west of North Oracle Road and south of West Calle Concordia, said Riley.
Riley said the traffic stop was made at 10 a.m., near Canyon del Oro High School, 25 W. Calle Concordia. The school was placed in lockdown for half an hour as a precautionary measure, said Riley.
Riley said she did not have information what led to the traffic stop, or why the man ran from the officer.
The investigation led police to the house, and there was an attempt by police to make contact with the residents. That is when an officer shot and injured the suspect, Riley said.
Riley said she did not know what led to the shooting.
No further information was immediately available.
Oro Valley Police have asked the Pima County Sheriff's Department to investigate the incident, which is a common occurrence in an officer-involved shooting, Riley said.
