A 4-year-old girl was saved from drowning in a midtown pool thanks to the family dog, according to a news release from the Tucson Fire Department.

The dog alerted the family that the child was in the pool at a home in the 4000 block of East Glenn St.

A family friend was able to pull her out and immediately began administering CPR, according to the release.

Tucson police took over CPR efforts upon arrival and TFD transported the girl to the hospital, the release said.

The child’s condition is unknown at this time.

The family friend’s CPR efforts were critical, as was the 911 dispatcher’s role in providing the CPR coaching over the phone, according to Captain Andy Skaggs of the Tucson Fire Department.
