Free Tucson talk to cover impact of midterms on state and national health care

Dr. Daniel Derksen, a health-care policy expert, will speak at a free public lecture and Q&A on the state of the U.S. health-care system and the potential impact of the midterm elections.

The lecture will take place from 6-7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson’s DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.

Derksen, associate vice president for health equity, outreach and interprofessional activities for UA Health Sciences, will cover his personal opinions on the potential impacts to Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, prescription benefits, access to care, costs, payment, health outcomes and the health-care economy at the state and national levels.

He will also provide examples of innovative solutions from state governments to address issues such as the opioid epidemic, he said.

“Early voting has already started in parts of the country. The process of what’s going to happen in the midterms will have already started,” Derksen said.

“The timing is my intent to help people make informed decisions.”
