Diana Acosta-Bacon (wearing black dress) stands with staff members from Big Heart Coffee and Gospel Rescue Mission.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Diana Acosta-Bacon.

Nominated by: Victor Hightower.

Why: For her tireless advocacy for the homeless, low-income and hungry in Tucson. She is a former associate pastor of the Church on the Street, which offers help to the homeless. She started a group called Love Werks, which assists the homeless with rebuilding their lives. She is on the planning committee of Tucson Homeless Connect and also manages Big Heart Coffee, where tips are donated to a charity each month, Hightower wrote in his nomination letter. “Her generous and self-effacing reputation precedes her. I have never met anyone whose smile radiates more, and whose love for others fills the space around her,” Hightower wrote.
