Tucson tied a 2005 record for the date with a high of 109 degrees Thursday, the National Weather Service says.

Thursday’s low was 84 degrees, said Aaron Hardin, a meteorologist for the weather service based at Tucson International Airport.

On Friday, July 7, the forecast calls for a high of 110 degrees. If the temperature hits, it would tie a record set on July 7, 1942, Hardin said. The low Friday is predicted at 82 degrees.

Saturday’s forecast calls for a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain in the Santa Catalina Mountains, and a 20 percent chance in the Tucson metropolitan area.

On Sunday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain in the mountains, and a 30 percent chance in the Tucson valley, Hardin said.

In the Phoenix area, 116-degree conditions are expected on Friday.
