A 59-year-old man was struck and killed early Wednesday as he tried to get across South Kino Parkway, Tucson police say.

William Glenn Gonzales was struck by at least two vehicles about 6:30 a.m. when investigators say he tried to cross the northbound lanes of Kino Parkway, just north of East Ajo Way, police said in a news release.

The unidentified 18-year-old driver of a Dodge Charger, the first vehicle to collide with Gonzales, briefly left the crash scene before he returned to talk to police, the release said.

At least one other vehicle struck Gonzales, police say.

Mid-block crossing has been deemed the major contributing factor in the crash, the release said. The investigation continues.
