Volunteers and supporters of Friends of the Oro Valley Library seek to raise at least $4,000 to support literacy and projects at the Oro Valley Library during the “Bling Without

If you want to get a jump-start on your Black Friday shopping, the Friends of the Oro Valley Public Library have a deal for you:

The “Bling Without the Bucks” gently used jewelry sale begins at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Oro Valley Public Library, 1305 W. Naranja Drive.

The biennial event features thousands of new and pre-owned earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings; the majority of pieces are priced at $5 or less. Attendees can expect to see a variety of antique, hand-made, semi-precious and vintage jewelry as well as beading supplies.

“We probably have 2,000 pairs of earrings alone — both clip earrings and pierced. You can’t imagine the variety we have. Lots of people do Christmas shopping here,” said Jane Peterson, vice president of the board of directors for Friends of the Oro Valley Library, a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging and receiving gifts, endowments and bequests to the library.

All proceeds from the sale, which seeks to raise at least $4,000, will benefit the projects of the Oro Valley Public Library.

Peterson said that Friends of the Library has provided financial support for a range of projects and items not covered by the library’s budget including a 3-D printer, video equipment and other technology for teens; furniture for the library; an extended library parking lot; adult programming fees; and scholarships for library staff to attend professional meetings and advance their educations.
