STK emergency

A 79-year-old man was struck and killed Wednesday evening while crossing a street in midtown, Tucson police say.

Gunji Toriyama was in a crosswalk about 6 p.m. crossing East Pima Street at North Rook Avenue, west of North Wilmot Road, when he was struck by an eastbound Dodge pickup truck, Tucson police said Thursday in a news release.

The 33-year-old driver of the pickup cooperated with authorities and was cited in connection with the crash, the news release said. Police did not identify the driver.

Toriyama is the fourth pedestrian killed in Tucson this year, police say.
