A deputy fatally shot a woman who was brandishing a large wooden board in southwest of Tucson, Pima County Sheriff's officials say.
Amanda Alvarez, 38, struck a resident with a two-by-four about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 4700 block of West Camino Tierra, near West Los Reales Road and South Camino de Oeste.
Deputies found Alvarez in a trailer and she was later shot by a deputy, the department said in a news release.Alvarez died a a Tucson hospital.
The deputy involved was identified as Samuel Herrera, who has been with the department about 18 months. He was treated at the scene for “chemical exposure,” the news release said.
Sheriff's officials have not released more details about the shooting, including what prompted the deadly encounter.
The incident is under investigation.
