Seventeen hikers were rescued Sunday evening in the Tanque Verde Falls area of Redington pass after they were stranded by a flash flood, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Eight of the 17, including a 4-year-old boy, were evacuated using the department's helicopter, but most of the remaining hikers were going to walk out once the waters subsided with the aid of search and rescue personnel, Deputy Cody Gress said.
The sheriff's department received a call about the stranded hikers at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
