Dr. Matthew Somerville offered a free dental screening at the 2011 Hope Fest at Kino Sports Complex.

Saturday is Tucson’s 23rd annual HopeFest, when local dentists and other medical professionals donate time and resources to help people in need.

This year’s event will go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Kino Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way.

At the event, attendees will be able to access groceries, hair cuts, clothing, dental care, free flu shots, HIV testing, pregnancy tests, checks of vital signs, blood pressure, glucose levels, and eye and hearing tests.

A tip based on last year’s event: If you want dental care, get there early. More than 175 dental professionals will donate their time and services to the event. Cleanings, a full exam and cavity care will be offered.

Dental services are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Organizers warn that overnight camping at Kino Stadium is not allowed before the event. The dental line will begin at 5 a.m. and not any earlier. The dental services will be provided to adults only, and volunteers will be able to help about 300 patients.

Dentures and partials are limited, and the number is based upon the amount of money raised toward the fees.
