Steve Leal, a former member of the Tucson City Council, is in the hospital recovering from heart attack.
Leal had the heart attack Wednesday night. Doctors at St. Mary's Hospital put in a cardiac catheter Thursday afternoon, and Leal's condition is considered to be stable, said friend Martha McGrath.
Leal, a Democrat, served five terms on the City Council before deciding in 2008 against seeking a sixth term. He was first elected in 1989.
More recently, Leal has been hosting a political podcast. His weekly podcast is part of a series of shows offered by Tucson Progressive Media.
