Tucson Police, code lights

A bicyclist has died of the injuries he received in a collision with a car in midtown Tucson on Thursday, police say.

Frank Johnson, 75, died at a hospital after the crash at about 9:30 a.m. April 25 at East Fort Lowell and North Treat Avenue, the Tucson Police Department said in a news release Monday.

Detectives determined Johnson was riding his bicycle on the north side of Fort Lowell near Treat when he began to cross the street from north to south. He collided with a black 2018 Nissan Altima that was headed west on Fort Lowell, police said.Β

The area has a marked crosswalk and a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal. Witnesses told police the HAWK signal was not activated at the time of the collision.

The bicyclist's failure to yield the right of way is the major contributing factor in the collision, police said.

No charges or citations have been issued.Β
