A 21-year-old woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle was killed in a crash Friday night on the road to Mount Lemmon, authorities say.
Mia Valencia was riding on the motorcycle about 8:30 p.m. near milepost 5 of General Hitchcock Highway when the southbound driver lost control, and smashed into a guardrail on the opposite side of the road, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
Valencia was thrown from the motorcycle and landed down an embankment. She was declared dead at the crash scene, the release said.
The unidentified driver, who authorities say was riding at a high rate of speed, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the release said.
