Molino Fire

An air tanker drops retardant on the Molino Fire. It was joined by several helicopters fighting the Molino Fire near milepost 4.5 on Hitchcock Highway in the Santa Catalina Mountains northeast of Tucson on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

U.S. Forest Service officials are asking the public to help find a man they believe could have started a fire last week on Mt. Lemmon.

The Molino Fire began April 4 near Milepost 4.5 on the Mt. Lemmon Highway. Officials believe the fire was related to recreational shooting activity, due to witness reports and activity associated with where the fire started, the forest service said in a news release Monday.

Officials described the person of interest as a tall, white man of husky build wearing a light-colored hat, gray shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. Witnesses saw him move toward a forest green, mid-1990s Ford Explorer parked in the area.

Anyone with information on the person of interest, activity near Milepost 4.5 on Tuesday, or any other suspicious activity can call the Coronado National Forest Supervisor's Office at 388-8300.
