One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash in midtown early Tuesday morning.

On person was killed and one injured in an early morning single-vehicle crash in midtown, authorities said.

Shortly after 2 a.m., officers responded to the 2200 block of North Euclid Avenue for reports of a serious crash, and found two people inside the vehicle, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Both occupants were transported to Banner-University Medical Center, but the driver succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival and was pronounced deceased.

He has been identified as 28-year-old Colby Olsen.

The front seat passenger was treated for minor injuries.

Traffic detectives have learned through their investigation that a silver Kia Spectra was driving northbound on North Euclid Avenue at a high rate of speed, Dugan said.

As the vehicle approached a bend in the road, Olsen lost control, driving it over the eastern sidewalk and into a landscaped area. The vehicle flipped and tumbled through trees and over large boulders, before striking a parked SUV in the front yard of a home, Dugan said.

Detectives believe that both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The passenger was wearing a seat belt, but Olsen was not.
