A woman and her two children escaped a fire after smelling smoke from the rear of their northside home, authorities said.

Tucson fire crews noticed the heavy smoke and flames coming from the porch when they arrived at the home on 100 W. Knox Dr. , near North Stone Avenue around 1:48 p.m.

It took approximately 16 minutes to extinguish flames on the back porch, a shed and surrounding bushes.

The family, including their dog, made it out without injury, a press release said.

Investigators said the fire did not make it inside the home but the family will be displaced. They will be receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
