Several traffic restrictions will be in place beginning tomorrow night and continue through Tuesday, at the interchange of I-19 and Ajo Way, officials said.

The work is part of a $40 million project to replace the current traffic interchange with a "modern single-point urban interchange," aimed to make movement of traffic safer and more efficient, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation news release.

The following restrictions are scheduled for this week:

  •  The southbound I-19 off ramp at Irvington Road and the right lane of southbound I-19 approaching the ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, to 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, for removal of temporary concrete barrier.
  • The left lane of northbound I-19 will be closed between Ajo Way (State Route 86) and Interstate 10 from 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, to 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, for installation of temporary concrete barrier.
  • Alternating lane closures will be in effect on northbound I-19 from Ajo Way to I-10 from 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, for highway striping and shifting northbound I-19 traffic onto a temporary detour.
  • The southbound I-19 off ramp at Irvington Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, for striping of the ramp.

Drivers are asked to proceed through the construction zone with caution and slow down for all workers and equipment.
