A 51-year-old Tucson man who the FBI dubbed the "Barrel Chested Bandit" was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to 11 counts of bank robbery, officials said.
Anthony James Lane also pleaded guilty to one count of attempted bank robbery, Cosme Lopez, a U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman, wrote in a news release.
Lane was sentenced Tuesday at the U.S. District Court in Tucson.
During a six-month crime spree that involved six states, Lane robbed and attempted to rob 12 banks by pretending to have a gun, the release said.
Lane was nicknamed the "Barrel Chested Bandit" based on witness descriptions and stole more than $74,000 from the banks, according to the release.
Lane was arrested and charged following investigations by six law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and various state agencies.
