The National Day of Action Friday to protest the immigration crackdown in Minnesota has prompted some schools and businesses in Tucson to close.

Early Thursday, Tucson Unified School District notified parents it was anticipating a "high volume" of staff absences Friday.

"While we are doing everything possible to cover these absences, we encourage you to begin making contingency plans for childcare now should your school close for the day on Friday January 30th due to lacking the personnel necessary to ensure the safe supervision of our students," a letter from Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo says.

"We understand the stress and the challenges that an interruption to classes present for our students and parents and are working diligently to minimize the impact on your family."

By late afternoon, TUSD families at some schools were notified classes were canceled.
