A 62-year-old was struck and killed after stepping into traffic while crossing West Valencia Road, Tucson police said.

William Joseph Barrett was struck about 7 p.m. Thursday while trying to cross the 600 block of West Valencia, near South 12 Avenue, outside of a crosswalk, police said Saturday in a news release.

Barrett died at the hospital.

An unidentified 44-year-old man driving a white 2011 Toyota Tundra west on Valencia was unable to avoid a collision with Barrett. He stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with police, the release said.

The investigation continues.
