A man was found guilty in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a skateboarder in 2017, officials say.

David Martinez-Campa was convicted of leaving the scene of an accident after causing serious physical injury or death, and tampering with evidence, the Pima County Attorney's Office said on Facebook

The sentencing is scheduled for November.

In February of 2017, Martinez-Campa hit 21-year-old skateboarder Michael Hartman with his car near South Swan and East Valencia roads and fled the scene.

Hartman died nine days later, the post says.

Police received a tip from a neighbor following the accident and were able to locate Martinez-Campa. When he caught word that police were in his neighborhood, he turned himself in, the post says.

The attorney's office also says that Martinez-Campa, with the help of a friend who is said to be a mechanic, removed the damaged parts from the car and purchased replacements online.
