A fire destroyed a wooden observation platform in the parking lot at Old Tucson Company studios and theme park Tuesday afternoon, said a spokeswoman for the park.
A guest at the theme park, 201 S. Kinney Road, noticed flames and reported it to personnel at the front gates, said Mary Davis, a spokeswoman for Old Tucson.
A Drexel Heights Fire District crew was dispatched at 3:46 p.m., and the fire was put out shortly after, said Tracy Koslowski, a district spokeswoman.
Old Tucson personnel had a water tender on scene and were fighting the fire, and firefighters took over and put the flames out, Koslowski said.
The platform was about 10 feet by 10 feet, and the fire did not spread. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage is estimated between $1,000 to $2,000 Koslowski said.
The observation deck was located on the southwest end of the parking lot. The theme park remained open, Davis said.
