The burn program at the University of Arizona Medical Center will receive a $10,000 boost this week from the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation's Southern Arizona Chapter.

Northwest Fire Department Division Chief Gary West will present a check to UA Medical Center trauma chief Dr. Peter Rhee and burn director Dr. Gary Vercruysse on Tuesday.

The UA Medical Center operates the only Level One trauma center and the only inpatient burn program in Southern Arizona.

Funds were raised at the Foundation’s seventh annual benefit dinner and golf tournament to help establish a local, full-service burn program for the benefit of Southern Arizona firefighters and the general public.

The National Fallen Firefighter Foundation Southern Arizona Chapter is a 20-member team of volunteers from 12 fire departments in the metropolitan Tucson area.
