A man struck and killed crossing near a busy intersection in midtown Tucson Saturday night has been identified.

Sergio Manuel Pedregon, 39, was struck about 8:30 p.m. after he stepped off a raised median and tried to cross East 22nd Street near South Alvernon Way, Tucson police said in a news release.

Pedregon died a short time later at Banner University of Arizona Medical Center.

He was not in a crosswalk, police said.
