The man who was shot and killed in Nogales after a law enforcement chase on Monday lived in Arkansas, where he was convicted of theft and disorderly conduct in 2019.Β

The driver was Glen Ray Cockrum, 39, said the Arizona Department of Public Safety. A man of Cockrum's name with the same birthdate, who had a semitruck and trailer, was arrested in 2018 in Arkansas on charges of threatening his father and stealing his truck, court records in Arkansas show. He was sentenced in November 2019 to a year of probation.Β

Officers with the Nogales Police Department and deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office pursued Cockrum on Monday afternoon as he drove a tractor-trailer on Interstate 19 and then into Nogales.

Officers and deputiesΒ  shot Cockrum in a Walmart parking lot and on a nearby street in Nogales. Officials have not released information about why the chase began or why they shot Cockrum.Β
