A 7-year-old boy died at the hospital after police found him at the bottom of his midtown pool Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Shortly after 3 p.m., police responded to a 911 call for a missing child in the area of East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The boy's mother told dispatchers that her son had been missing for about 30 minutes, and police officers assisted in the search, using a skimmer to check the bottom of the pool, which Dugan described as "dirty, murky and green" in color.

There was no barrier between the house and the pool, Dugan said.

Officers found the boy at the bottom of the pool and pulled him out, initiating CPR until paramedics arrived.

The boy was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries, Dugan said.

TPD's child physical abuse unit is investigating the incident.
